I think it is because the natural geographical circumstance of your country forced you to adopt a cult of perfecting functionality beginning with the industrialization of the world.
Possessing neither resource nor location good for trade you adapted by producing high quality goods.
Because products must be expensive enough to cover the costs of:
- acquiring resource
- transporting it into the mountains
- transporting it out of the mountains
This cost made your country unable to compete in simple production of goods with countries which can produce cheap at mass scale, because they have direct access to resource and better location for trade.
Switzerland adapted by focusing on producing the highest quality of goods.
Perfected functionality became national ethos.
But the downside is working longer hours, working hard to reach that top tier quality.
I think this workload, and the strictness of work ethos is not something sensitive souls can easily deal with.
This is I think the reason why Switzerland is not at the top of these lists.
I could be totally wrong though, that is just my opinion.
Btw. Max Bodmer(Walo Lüönd) from the movie "Die Schweizermacher" is my favorite movie character of all time.
