If it were me, I'd play the role where he was helped out of the court and continue his survival to continue the legacy of the Batman series. It's not killing off the characters. The first Joker movie was, in my opinion, famous because it responded to dissatisfaction with the growing income inequality around the world.

But in the second part, the director threw out the Batman universe. and dreaming about his own art

Its such a let down man.
I heard Todd Phillips was being pressured by journalists because Arthur resonated with so many young men. The journalists were accusing him of inspiring violence or some shit which is why he humiliated Arthur in the sequel.
