the same was common in the west for a long time. before the 90s plenty of gay dudes just wore drag or actually did get sex changes or whatever to make that same reconciliation of "I'm a guy" with "I want to fuck dudes" into something that is at least mildly acceptable, seeing "women can fuck dudes" and so concluding "I'll be a woman then".
it also explains why MtFs are so obsessively girly and feminine in any context, east or west, past or present -- you never see a trap that wears normal clothing, but most normal women these days go out in jeans and t-shirts like any guy does. many don't even paint their nails unless it's a special occasion. but traps always wear elaborate ruffly dresses, paint their nails all sorts of colors, get gaudy rainbow arm-warmers (not even women wear those) and obsess over being smooth and thicc.
I bet that with men's fashion having a lot more gaudy patterns and well-tailored stuff, and women's fashion drawing on men's fashion more and more, the obsession with petticoats and shimapan and rainbow socks will only get worse and worse
