if you intend to have kids, it's especially important that your belief is correct, since they'll spend more time in that world, and possibly not be as self-reliant as you've already demonstrated you are
it all trickles down, and they may or may not be forced to depend on other people later on

it would be le nice to believe it's possible, and it's been sustainable in the past in different situations
but more importantly, we're all FORCED to depend on each other with the way things are right now (gotta have money, etc), so it's good if you're not walking around sharing public spaces, work environments, etc. with a bunch of neurotic impulsive fuckheads
