I work with a company that sells women's cloths and women actually do not use the filters for cloths with pockets, and the pocket brands are niche at best. They bitch all the time, but you forget how often women buy cloths. Money talks and what they actually come back for over and over and over, are cloths that make them look good. Bulging pockets, and floppy cloths, and extra layers of cloth make them look fat and they buy one, see it, hate it, and THEY go back to buying a bad and cloths with flat fake pockets.
Women demand it, women make it, women buy it. Guys do not care what we look like and buy cargo shorts because they are useful, and women go as far as to mock us for it. That's how bad they hate pockets, they don't just shun pockets in women's cloths they harass men for it too. Not just cargo pants, but they have tips on sweing pockets shut on dress cloths just to keep them thin and flat. Women are why your suit jackets come sewn shut, women like suits and prefer the thinnest possible ones on guys, and thus nothing in the pockets and sewing them shut to keep them flat. Their influence on men's fashion is literally why so many sports coats and dress cloths do this. But if you're a single guy you probably thought it had to do with shipping and tore the pocket open right away.
If you random sample 100 people at a JC Penny trying on suits, and look at the couples, any time a woman is there they will pick the suit that looks better and it's always brands that have the pockets sewn shut. That is also how every pocket in every TV show and movie ever produced looks like.
TLDR Women are the enemies of pockets. In UX we say, don't always listen to customer feedback, instead measure what they do. This is a good example. Anyone moving to pockets only cloths would go out of business.
