It’s not supposed to be this way. Trivial shit like this that most people do not care about should be baked in to the culture. We used to call it “manners”, it was just the “proper” way to do meaningless shit.
We even used to have a word for the people who eschewed manners: the counter-culture. They don’t use that word anymore, despite our country never being more culturally divided.
Well; they made manners, the bread and butter of culture, undisreable. Bland. Boring. These daily and visible trivial acts of sameness subconsciously reinforce unity in a people. The differences in these mannerisms cause culture shock and feelings of ethnic superiority. Consider the jeets eating with their hands or shitting in the street: westerners are weirded out by it but Indians will defend it as the superior way.
This even kept white people divided at a time they could afford to be; with everyone knowing, in their gut, their personal culture and mannerisms were superior. The others, obviously, were deserving of mockery. Even scorn.
This is what they took from you: the daily communal rituals that cast a spell of cultural unity. They stole your philia.
They committed this monstrous sin on purpose.
Meticulously.
Persistently.
Tirelessly.
And make no mistake: this is the means, not the end.
