>>2373413I'd argue it's probably more depressing. Not even 70 years ago it was nothing but dirt and tumbleweeds aside from the occasional farms. Most of the area is still developing, and everywhere you go it's grey architecture with a grey sky, which more or less instills bleakness. Most of the people here have no future, as the area is declining. A massive influx of illegal immigrants in my part of town, and all of the fucking yuppies telling us we need to accept everyone from behind their gated communities. The school system here is getting progressively worse as there's 34 kids per classroom regardless of grade level, and being terribly underfunded leads to unsanitary water and lack of actual professionals willing to work for such a low wage.
Aside from all of this, I can go outside at night and feel safe, though I feel like in the next 5 to 10 years that's subject to change. As gang violence and rampant drug problems continue to spread, all I can do is sit here and fuckin' watch. As soon as I finish tech school I'm running the fuck away from this place before it becomes a horror story about the "diverse and multicultural communities" you read about on /pol/.
Here's some articles about the Tri-Cities area and it's surrounding regions:
