i'm in a position where to get to the next step in life i need to walk 6 miles to work every day and back (12 miles or 19 kilometers a day) and hope it doesn't rain.

i got an e scooter that can just barely make it on a single charge but i don't know how to break it to an employer without giving them the ick. who wants to hire someone on an e scooter wearing a backpack?

why do you need to "break it to them"?
getting yourself to work is your own responsibility, idk why they should need to know about that

it's not a reliable means of transportation. If it rains it's over. it also takes 4x longer to get to work on the e scooter than with a car. Also what if they don't want to have some e scooter laying around the place? because it must stay inside, it's not secure outside.

okay but still, that's just more reason not to tell them
again, getting to work is your own responsibility, and if it ends up raining then it's not gonna matter whether you told them beforehand or not, if you can't get to work that's your problem

i guess there MIGHT be some way to store it inside out of the way, depends on the building
could you store it in a building nearby somehow?

carpool is probably a good idea, but you should try to think these things through next time, if you can afford to

if it ends up raining maybe you can just call an uber or something for that day, and hopefully you can find a better solution for getting there at some point

i have to tell them because of the second line where i say i need to keep it inside. imagine the look on their faces after i get hired and say "great!" then i walk outside and hobble back in with a 50 pound 4 foot long e scooter.

the best approach is either to not tell them & just quietly bring it inside on your first day, or to ask them as early as possible whether you'd be able to store it inside somewhere & figure out something else if not

i really hate to say this in an era where everyone and their grandmother claims to be mentally ill but i am legitimately a total sperg.

i was doing it long before everyone else was, i am an OG. I was on xanax at age 10 for my neuroticism and people ask me if i'm ok because i walk around looking like my parents just died. I also have learning disabilities which have caused a lot of humiliation when working.

of course i get no support or benefits for it.

so the fact that i've had 5 jobs in the past and am working out is actually a miracle that i would not have believed i could've done years ago.

again, its not the employer's responsibility, they do not care how you get to work. in this case that is an advantage to you. if they have a bike rack somewhere just bring a small tarp with you on rainy days, cover it, lock it to the rack so that niggers dont steal it, bring the helmet with you and put it next to your desk, I have coworkers that do this, it isnt unusual.
