The fact you already avoided the flashcard trap is a good thing since it's garbage.
But just memorising 15-20 words a day sounds pretty low.
The way my vocabulary increased a lot was by just reading manga all the time. I usually look up every single word when I don't know what it is.- You quickly start memorising the most common ones, but it takes a long time and is a pain in the ass. No need for mining or doing these weird complicated setups however atleast.
Gotten good enough for me to have moments where I can read stuff like pic related without having to look up anything.
