workspace has a global, but maybe the others don't, and his thinking is that local references to the various tables pulled onto the stack are going to be faster than repeated lookups and function calls?
or maybe he just finds game:GetFoo("Bar") to be ugly?

if his goal was to shave off microseconds he would have just localized the global once instead of pulling getservice into the same local twice
