perhaps that's to say, western cultures' philosophical underpinning is essentially: magic sky daddy grants whishes sometimes, theoretically greater wish fulfillment chance if ur good boy, and also literal zombie saves you from the mean fire daddy who lives, uh, in the center of the earth or something, lul, planet dynamics tbd. so, perhaps fanciful fiction, but there's always/often a striving for realism/reason to elucidate a world viewed through fiction.
whereas, eastern cultures are like, yeah existence is varying degrees of shit with fleeting moments of sublime euphoria, enjoy the cherry blossoms, and eh, maybe u become a stoic zen bro or something and are less susceptible to cognitive dissonance and internal anguish, so, yokai and tentacle hentai. of course, eastern cultures have an animist tradition that sees a life-essence in everything including the /seemingly/ inanimate, so something of a greater ability to imagine fanciful beings and situations is had.
sure, western cultures also had animist-esque paganism/polytheism that was basically (sometimes literally) eradicated by christian dogma and fear mongering. indeed, we draw on those stories for inspiration, but they're more stilted motifs than something felt/organic. or something.
ofc, super philosophical generalizations
