your mistake was probably setting their expectations too high
stop helping people with their inane bullshit, and they'll stop asking except when it's very important
u could consider making a pay-to-win server as well, idk how feasible that is but i always think about it (not worth killing the server/playerbase, though, obviously)

if there's a trustworthy guy who is very committed to the server, and puts a lot of time into it, you could consider giving him admin permissions & letting him handle a lot of that shit

i do have one very trust worthy person there and he already has some cherry picked perms like vanish, ban, whitelist and spectator mode, but the main issue is that nobody except for me doesnt know shit about operating a minecraft server, let alone a linux box

that shouldn't normally matter that much, should it?
i mean, within the context of the minecraft server & the playerbase, how often does troubleshooting the server & the actual linux box actually come up?

i've ran small minecraft servers, and i know a lot more about linux
it's tempting to offer help, but idk what you're dealing with, or whether i'd be reliable enough to be helpful

okay, a lot of the problems are imaginary (as i said with disappearing items), but if theres a real problem, its always either: permissions, docker, a closed source plugin i have to decompile, fix and recompile, modrinth going down (fucking the whole docker image in the process and making one plugin that checks for updates nuke the whole main server thread) or some god awful plugin's config that only i can decipher and modify (yaml scary)
