Latasha Harlins - Black History

ID:/Pjc/oWu No.23958244 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Latasha Harlins was like any other girl. She had dreams and lived within Los Angeles. During her middle school years she ran on the track team, and was on the honor roll. Latasha intended to play basketball, become a lawyer to fight for justice, and she was known as the neighborhood's big sister for her sweet personality. So what happened to sweet Latasha?

In 1991, Latasha was within a store owned by Koreans. Koreans have been buying up businesses belonging to regular Americans, and taking resources. Latasha was feeling thirsty, and put a bottle of orange juice within her backpack. However Du thought Latasha was going to steal. There was no intent for Latasha to steal. Feeling confused Latashsa denied she was stealing. Other eye witnesses said Latasha had the intent to pay and was walking towards the register. Instead Du began attacking Latasha, so in self defense as Latasha was physically attacked, Latasha struck Du once as her backpack was nearly stolen by the shop owner.

Trying to flee the scene, and deescalating, Latasha tried reasoning with her but Du retrieved the revolver and shot Latasha from behind. Latasha was struck in the head and killed. Even the security camera showed Latasha had no intention to harm, nor was she stealing and acted in self defense.

"'Cause a bottle of juice is not something to die for"
