Substituting o/a for x was the prototype of the current way of saying something with gender neutrality. Nowadays people use "e" instead, at least in Brazil. "Um bom dia para todes", " a good day for everybody [who is listening this]". I study humanities in a notably leftist university and have to hear people using gender neutral shit from time to time.
