if you want to increase your endurance you go for lighter weights but more reps. this gives you very little muscle mass but is excellent training for runners.
if you want to increase your burst strength you do less reps but heavier weights. this gives you muscle mass but ultimately wont mean anything in real world situations, except maybe for a fight
