Like when you learn to sketch, there are certain tricks and techniques like putting the cross on faces to get a sense of perspective. There are objectively the “right” way to do it because it helps. You could say there are also objectively “correct” ways of writing, making sentence structures, using proper English, etc. Yet, that’s not entirely true because Shakespeare practically reinvented parts of the English language, and everyone just kind of rolled with it. Our language also changes with time and places. One of the exercises we did in school was to rewrite a paragraph using three different styles while keeping the plot the same. It really is kind of amazing how the image you have in your head of a written event changes when written differently, or experienced by another person.
This video depicting the ending of blood meridian for example is completely different that what I envisioned reading it.

I imaged the dance hall brightly lit with orange and yellow lamps, everybody dancing in a trance, almost oblivious to the judge’s presence, symbolizing people’s acceptance and willful ignorance of evil even when it’s so obviously dances with them. The sketch depicts depicts a far more macabre setting, one that is almost dreamlike with the judge as this enigmatic figure front and center stage, the parting is revolving around him, not with him like I envisioned. I still really like it but it goes to show the power of different imaginations.
