It's Brigadoon, a semi-obscure Sunrise mecha anime that's all over the place with it's genres and themes. Embraces a ton of tropes, subverts a ton of tropes, builds up expectations and does a u-turn, really hard anime to classify because you can't tell if it's trying to be a shoujo, a shonen, or a seinen.

I really liked the mecha design and the animation, it felt like it was being intentionally confusing with the Adam and Lilith backstory, and the main story of Shinji being a bitch was pretty boring. I've rewatched it once and I really only enjoyed the animation.

I'm guessing that Evangelion didn't resonate at all with yall. It's such a powerful show because people can actually see aspects of themselves in it that they don't want to see.
