It got bombed because of it's desire of ruling Yugoslavia, instead of being a part of it. It played with both the Americans and the Russians, so it got burned.
Kosovo is just the right place to control the region from, and the Shquips have been mercenaries since the Turks brought them to the Balkans, so that works for the US very well.
On the other note - Kosovo was never Serbian - Montenegrins and Slavic-""Bulgarians"" lived alongside the Shquips, and then got assimilated after the Balkan Wars.
