I think of it this way... Imagine going to a party and when you walk in, everybody is separated in different corners with a few others and they're all discussing shit that you're not interested in. So, you go in the center and ask if anybody wants to dance or something, but nobody responds because they're all caught up in their own conversations. This continues for the entire party. As you sat around drinking, you might find one or two people in the same position as you, but overall the parties vibe would be pretty lame.
