>>2467882>inviting normalfags in is what turned this place into a cult.People kept mistaking the first two rules of the internet (don't talk about /b/) as "Don't talk about 4chan". Talking about the website is completely fine and should be encouraged. It is just an image board with various different topics.
Edgy brainwashing techniques were being used to basically promote illegal posts on /b/ as they generated interest in the community.
Moot and the team couldn't handle illegal posts to begin with and didn't know what to do when someone posted illegal shit other than banning their IP. Some of the people who posted illegal content started to think that 4chan was a safe place for that kind of behavior.
To be fair, I don't think there is a single news post claiming to have convicted a pedophile, murderer or drug user based on things they posted on 4chan. Nothing like that exists online.
On top of that, not knowing about 4chan became problematic when a raid on someone occurred. Instead of "oh shit, I'm being raided" you got "what is happening, I don't understand". If you're a troll, that could have been a better response but for 4chan it was extremely damaging if the person found out about the website after not knowing what had happened to their stream/website/their life previously. Get enough people together who were raided and didn't know what had happened and you could be looking at a class action lawsuit.
