we first have the so called romantic love, which according to some well known researchers (H. Fisher) works as a motivation. A motivation get a specific partner. But it last up to 2 years.
Then we have the other type of love, the maternal one or the companion one which last way more time. Not so passional. thats for sure, but it is actually a more realistic approach to love.
The dumb thing is that, recently, in our society we have chosen to follow the romantic love... which eventually leads to rupture unless you develop companion love (hence the high % of divorce/ break ups)
So yeah, following romantic love is kind of a late social feature... though based on real biological processes.
