So it's first person, and you go through the dungeons and the touch screen is where you draw maps and place icons for various things on the map, you can set it to auto mark squares you've been in though but it won't mark walls and such.
There are demos for all the 3DS ones, and I think V comes out in America in a few days.
And I think there is a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon style spin off game seeing as you mention that.
I've not played much of the series, so someone else would be able to tell you more, but I don't think I'm wrong on any of this.
