Korean language fun fact n°2 :
Let's talk about 불 today, it means fire in Korean and it finds its way in many common Korean words.
고기 means meat in Korean, add fire in front of it, and you get 불고기, the famous Korean barbecue !
Do you like Blackpink ? Then you probably heard about their song "Playing with fire" from the Korean 불장난, 장난 meaning a joking or kidding.
Koreans often say 장난이야 ! = Just kidding ! (Only in informal situations between friends).
Finally let's talk about my favourite : 불금
This one isn't an official word, it's more an expression.
금요일 = Friday
So yes 불금 is literally Fire Friday.
This magical moment of the week where the Korean who worked all week finally get some time to have fun, go out with his co-workers or friends to eat some bulgogi and drink some soju until he throws up and fall asleep in the street.
The closest translation to 불금 would probably be Saturday/Friday night fever.
