I'm trying to write a peer-to-peer networking software, but I'm stuck on NAT traversal. I can't figure out a way to accomplish it without owning my own private server for establishing connections.
I thought about using ICE but I can't find any libraries that would work in my case (in C on Windows) and writing one myself seems a little too much since I'm kinda new to this stuff.
Do you have any idea what would be a good way to implement this stuff?
I know it's not impossible because I've seen other people accomplish it but I really can't figure out how

Why don't you have your client apps connect to an IRC channel for communicating a list of connections - then switch to P2P once you have the list of IP addresses.

Client-->[IRC:#secretchannel]-->[>192.168.1.2 >64.100.76.10.. etc..]-->[P2P]

That way you get a free server to negotiate connections from, and can jump to another if you get shut down for any reason.

If it's just about peer discovery, you should make it so peers store and share information about peers to other peers.
And then so that to join the network a peer must know the contact details of another peer already in the newtork.

Also you should switch the positions of () and []

I think if i did implement IRC for STUN rendezvous, then i could also use that for a new peer to find a suitable member of the swarm to connect to first and retrieve the addresses of other peers from. This way i wont have to have any hardcoded peer addresses for new peers.
This would still make the IRC servers points of failure for the entire network (except those already connected to it), but i think this is probably my best bet. thanks for the help!
