Because parents are having kids way later than they should. A woman is most fertile as soon as she has her period, and nowadays some woman don't have their first child till they are in there mid 30's. When you have a kid that late, it has lees of a chance of being strong and virile.

The other day I watched a documentary about brain and intelligence, and scientists found that for at least a century the intelligence of the human race has taken a nosedive. Most IQ tests are extremely misleading since they test stuff like logical thinking which most of us have learned since on average we spend way more time in school than our ancestors. But if you test really basic stuff like reaction time you suddenly find out that it has been slowly increasing for decades. And the number of inventions/patents per capita has decreased since around 1900.

The reason for this effect are various pollutants (pesticides and so on) which are everywhere thanks to industrialization and have the neat side effect to impact the speed at which our brain can process information.
