Traditionally, it's Republican politicians who get Defense money, and money from the Chamber of Commerce (big business). Democrat politicians get it from other sources, such as unions, other government agencies....etc
But it's constantly changing. These days Democrat politicians are getting lots of Defense money as well, they supported the war in Syria.
Basically if your company, government agency, or organization needs laws passed in your favor, or money thrown your direction, you simply hire some lobbyists and they'll make it happen. Choose a party that will sponsor you, donate to their political campaigns, and they'll champion your interests in Washington.
Very few politicians actually support the will of the people over the will of their lobbyists, we call these "populists", they are extremely hated on Capitol Hill, and usually marginalized
