Don't take this personally america but you've become a nation of quick-wins. If something can't be solved overnight, don't bother with it.
What America should be doing is forget the weapons, target the ammunition.
Look at the uk. 10 years ago i was surrounded by smokers whenever i popped out of work for a crafty. These days, maybe 1 or 2 other people max.
Why? The government made a long-term plan to phase it out.
What america needs to do is start of with something like 7.62's, then 5.65's, then 45's, then the magnum calibers, until ending with the obvious 9mm's and shotgun shells.
Starve the weapons.
