I've watched the show with a friend who does like it, and found it to be pretty enjoyable whenever sheldon and his 'tism aren't the focus of the scene. Same for penny. She's not as grating but she basically only exists as a foil for Sheldon so fuck that shit.
That one episode where the rest of the crew ditch him to go camping and end up getting high off brownies was actually pretty funny for a typical prime time sitcom!
And when it's the typical "the characters are paired off for separate plots that converge in the end" format, the secondary not involving is generally not a bad watch.
