Good question, travel a lot, one of the best parts of this country is its fauna and flora. All be it expensive to do so, as a family we enjoy driving to various places, private game reserves, museums, the usual stuff that others would do.

Being a history nut I tend to enjoy finding myself at monuments and museums.

Other activities general outdoor, fishing, off roading, cycling. Loads of things that anybody else can do I am sure

How do you protect yourself from crime? Everything I've read about SA says that it's absolutely awful and there are even companies that will install razor wire on homeowners' walls

People who live in higher income/wealthier areas are generally able to afford private security, which generally act as a sort of "neighbourhood watch" corporation but on a national scale. Essentially our government has privatised the security business and you can pay a "security company" to patrol your area. They've done this because the police force is a fucking joke. With that in consideration it's still not enough to keep crime away and it still happens. As South Africans we generally accept that "if it happens it happens". I someones going to rob your house then they will.
