/bant/ why the fuck do I keep trying to like anime?
I cant tell if I like anime or not.I keep trying watch it and sometimes il like it, and other times I feel like I'm watching it for some alterior motive.So whats the deal with that?

Most moe anime is literally written for otaku/people who are already familiar with other types of anime, and explicitly pander to to these people with references.

Start with something accessible but not too long like Trigun, something that both anime fans and anime casuals enjoy.

I don't have the link unfortunately, but someone else might, but if your goal is to talk about stuff it migh be worth giving the currently airing shows a look and seeing if you like any of them, and there's a site that lists those. Depends what exactly you mean by hang out, and where, but I imagine knowing current popular stuff would be helpful for that.

Anime is a medium, no different to books and films. Within it you will find stuff that you may like or dislike based on your preferences of genres and styles. Simply forcing yourself to enjoy a show because others do is an exercise in futility and just serves to show how stupid a hivemind is.
Find a genre you like and stick with it until you feel like branching out. I like adventures so I'd recommend you watch Lupin as it's one of my favourites.
