In the former, you distinguish them as some unique species because of their skin color like a racist autist. In the latter, you say that they are people just like whites except they're not white, which makes you a more liberal racist.

Just politely call them by their ethnicity or nationality like normal people do. African-Americans, Arabs, Asians, Slavic, Whites, etc.
