In Mensa most people are atheists, but that's due to the nature of the bell curve - most members are close to the 130 cut.
Atheism is indeed a smart stance to take, but if you think through your assumptions really throughly there is no option but to believe in some sort of non material nature for consciousness. Now where to go from there varies with each person.
