It's a mechanism that loads of animals evolved to have. When the population begins to exceed the given space and resources, homosexual tendencies become more prominent. Homosexuals don't breed, therefore they don't contribute to overpopulation. It's all a part of our natural ability to maintain equilibrium with our own environment.
