The only time we use the word fries is sometimes to specifically refer to ones of a more American style (ie. thin), for example at sixth form they sold both chips and curly fries for lunch, and the chips were more chunky (and the curly fries had some kind of seasoning on them, they tasted like ass if you ask me, but people seemed to like them). Though I mean some people probably do say fries all the time, but fuck them they're wrong.
