>>2742270One of the only friends I ever had became a weeb, whereas I am more anti-anime, so I can explain both sides of this pretty well.
Most weebs simply begin by getting addicted to a mainstream anime that you find on TV, like Naruto or Dragon
Ball-Z.In a way not really different to those of particular Western cartoons or even vidya. However, the obsessions often end up going beyond the one show and then they try explore other, lesser known anime. It is around this point that they start listening to Japanese episodes with subtitles as opposed to dubbed English episodes.
As they become a bit too obsessive for society, they tend to gain even more interest in the anime world, closing away from the real world in favour of it. They start choosing waifus and their entire life many days is just watching anime after anime. What started out as watching one show on TV has resulted in a reclusive wreck of a person. This may go even further, all the way to the Ken-Sama wannabe Japanese kind of weebs, but not even most here are at that stage.
Antianimes, particularly on 4chan, have mostly only been around since 4chan expanded from anime into other topics, and more so when the site gained notoriety. Many arrived as underage edgelords, but quite a large number integrated pretty well into the site community. Most antianimes don't actually hate anime as in the animation style, but more so the shows and characters posted on this site, which almost all happen to be schoolgirls from the moe genre. They find anime shitposts often make up too many of the threads, and this causes them to look down on weebs, especially the ones who waifu schoolgirls.
>>2742378Yes, I remember Caturday. Seems that like many memes from this site, it has moved into normie meme culture now, but I did still see the occasional Caturday thread on /b/ before migrating to /bant/ when it first began earlier this year.
