Because the most fun things to do are going around killing everything in different ways and doing misc quests. The main quest line is pretty boring

Also melee in this game is fucking broken op. Everything dies in one hit and you can use vats to instantly attack anything thats on your screen, no matter how far they are (if you get the right perks).
