You'd be amazed what people will fight for, long after they should have just broken down and died, even without martial arts superpowers, if they have something driving them onward.
I don't mean like a slave-driver or some such. Though one can add guilt, perhaps.
Someone, somewhere is counting on you. Grief at what someone or something is doing messing with people.
Untrained people have lifted cars or trucks with their own strength to get to someone under it.
Now, it also ends up in a loop. People going the extra distance for things like love or compassion can often inspire others. Even if they die, others will rise to continue the work.
