That's because these genres have a multitude of references to the past, ranging from the 80s to pre-Christian Europe. Liberals don't like that because "muh progressivism. stop praising time before now! it's 2017!"
On a side note, it's kind of funny that retowave has been able to sink some fangs into White identity, despite referencing a time later and a little more liberal than the 1950s. Liberals hate the 1950s, but they will gladly snatch rock music and claim it as a minority invention. The 1980s they'll wash their hands of, unless it involves 80s toys or cartoons. Maybe some movies, though a lot of those movies are getting trashy remakes and sequels because the liberals don't seem to approve of them enough.
