And you're right, it was to prevent authoritarian government policies but now any organized militia could be immediately destroyed by a drone strike, swat team, bomb raid, etc. Guns are fine but it's so much more about being able to have them with no regulation that fans the flames of everyone in society here being treated like shit, so once they snap because of constant abuse an anxiety they can easily go and kill others.
I imagine it would be a little better if there was more emphasis on individuals and quality of life instead of big business and consumerism. If people were looked at like humans they may see others as humans before killing them when they snap, then it would be just suicide instead of mass shooting/suicide.
