In general, there is very little discrimination against Asians, most racial discrimination is against American Blacks and Latinos, however the discrimination against them can be very intense in certain areas.
Discrimination against American Blacks has been a constant throughout our history, discrimination against Latinos stems from the old Mexican-American War, where America defeated Mexico and annexed many of its northern territories. When our immigration laws were weakened in the 1960's, many Mexicans tried to move back to their old northern territories, which is now our southwest, and the Americans living in the southwestern states became angry because they felt their communities were being overrun by foreigners.
In the southern states there are many white people who hate blacks, but the southern states have a culture of honor, so everyone is treated with respect unless someone violates that respect. That's why there is less racial segregation in the southern states than in the northern states, even though there is less discrimination in the northern states. But I would say most parts of the south are very safe for an Asian, however there are some cities, such as Atlanta, that are dangerous because many of the locals are unwelcoming towards foreigners.
I hope this post was informative for you.
