What you're seeing, OP, is "The Founder Effect". Intelligence is distributed, and the smart one leave India and are the ones you come in contact with.
My experience with Indian professors has been negative. With a sample size of 4, they were all LARPing as knowing their subject. Sort of like the Chinese profs. They get by on plagiarism, Graduate assistants, racism, and copyright violation answer books picked up in Hong Kong.
