Best time to visit Spain is may-june. July-august is way too hot in most places.
Barcelona is a tourist theme park, but it's still alright. If you plan to study there (either Erasmus or something else), be aware that non-English classes could be either in Spanish or Catalan. Deal with it.
Also, don't go to the beach in Barcelona. Take the time to go north to Costa Brava or south to Sitges and below. World of difference.
Best food is in the northern coast, from Galicia to Basque Country. Madrid's nightlife is way better than Barcelona's. The coolest city in the south is Granada.
