and it isn't that common in Russia

most of these german names are well known, but a bit old fashioned.
Siegfried, Sigmund, Friedhelm and Hildegard appear particularly outdated to me.

So my grandmother is called Hildegard (without the e), my godfather is called Reiner, short for Reinhardt, I know a Manfred, my former boss was Ludwig, a neighbour is called Friedhelm, some neighbour girl is called Franziska, my other Grandmother is called Helga and the mother of a friend of mine is called Ingrid.
Pretty sure I know some Johann, the Grandfather of a friend of mine I think, but not quite sure. But the short form, Jan, is the name of someone I went to school with. Don't know any Otto personally, no Karl either, but a friend of my brother is called Hans.
Pretty spot on that shit.
Missing Wolfgang though, lots and lots of Wolfgangs where I life.

Today, Sven(d) is something young hipsters are sometimes named because their parents wanted to be ironic or whatever. Beyond that it's just old or isolated people who are named that.

Same with Lars.

Ragnar is not a normal name. Wagner is though, it's fairly close. Literally only old people are named this.

Magnus is very common. I have a cousin and beyond that know 3 other (young btw) people called Magnus. Common in both young and old.

Think about the Tyronnes and Yaniquas and all that kind of bullshit names but in spanish. They are mostly based on english names but they are written as how they sound in spanish.
