Its pronunciation is univocal in 99% of the cases so you don't need to memorize how words are written like in English (spelling), you can deduce on the fly how something is written by hearing it and how something is pronounced just by reading it, so even in people with little literacy grammar mistakes and typos are uncommon as long as you're actually trying.
