It's justified, it can be rationalized, because at least their death had a purpose. They're killed to fulfill a need. Not a whim, a need. And yes, global meat industry is way out of hand and should be at least scaled down significantly, but let's not touch on that.
Torturing or killing anyone, even cattle, even a rodent, without any purpose is fucked up, it's wrong. It's wasting a life just for amusement, you can't rationalize this.
