Back to my point - The Otherland is a sorta fantasy/sci-fi series of books set largely in a virtual world that the global elite try to make a sort of eternal reality, Much of it is centered in Ancient Egypt. There is even a dark, sleeping AI they use as the OS of the VR sim world.
Powered by absorbing... souls, basically.
It's kinda like a meta pizza/AI/black cube/internet/deep state/Illuminati masterwork of going down the rabbit hole.
