>>3039193Our traditional dishes are mostly something involving fish, lot's of it is good, but a lot of it are acquired tastes, like lutefisk, it's fish soaked in sodium hydroxide, most people don't really like it as children, but they grow into it when they're adults.
Other than that we have lots of generic meat and potato dishes, served with brown sauce (browned butter with flour and stock, sometimes cream is added too) lingonberry jam, and mushy peas , like kjöttkaker which is like a big meatball.
It may sound plain and boring, but I find it very good.
We also have some weird dishes that mostly are used as a novelty at gatherings and holidays, like smalahove (literally a sheeps head) or rakfisk (fermented fish), some people are very fond of these dishes though, but it's not really common anymore, these used to be survival foods to use up every part of the animal and to keep food over longer times, but has stuck with tradition.
