it also raises more questions and makes you realize that it's pointless and not really worth it to understand the movie in relation to the series and that it's better to observe it from a purely thematic point if view.
I like to think of it as a metaphor for growing up, a metaphor for the different stages of adolences, being scared shitless when you get thrown into a completely unfamiliar world, the adult world, having all these responsibilities and high expectations suddenly thrown at you. Seeking approval. dissapointing others and yourself. clinging, clinging to your parents, to that girl you liked, to that one person that was actually and genuinely nice to you without any ulterior motives, without asking anything of you in turn. almost giving up. wanting to just go home. wanting everything and everyone to just "stop".
and then, learning to let go, to adapt, to "grow up".
