It has to do with geography and what the people of a nation need to do in order to survive. As the geographic center of Europe, the Germans needed to learn how to be efficient and master trade in order to survive. The British needed to master the seas to gather resources from outside their resource-poor nation. The Russians needed to conquer and conquer and conquer until they hit geographic barriers that could secure safety against invading forces, and they had to hold the areas they conquered, which is more difficult than it sounds.
What have the burgers needed to learn or do in order to survive? Almost nothing. The native problem almost took care of itself through diseases. They have access to two oceans, abundant resources, the best farmland on earth, lots of rivers to guarantee the prosperity of their inland territories, many geographic barriers, and no strong neighbors whatsoever. (unless you count Russia's maritime border with Alaska)
In short, the Burgers don't need to do anything to survive or guarantee their prosperity, and the immense power they wield over the world due to their excellent geography gives them a sense of entitlement and arrogance.
