>>3084592Maybe. For me personally, at least, I don't know that I'd have cared for it at the time it was originally published, either, to be honest. The whole period in Western literature from the death of Goethe to the age of readily-available hallucinogens beginning in the 1950s has always seemed like a cultural nadir to me. There are a few exceptions, mostly in American literature, weirdly, and Russian if you even consider that part of the West. I obviously haven't read anywhere near everything published in that century-and-a-quarter or so, though.
